A crooked door needs room, not another opener cycle
If a garage door is hanging unevenly, a roller has left the track, or a cable appears loose, stop using it. Keep people, pets, and vehicles out of the opening. Continuing to run the opener can worsen the damage and create an unsafe situation.
Do not try to push the door back into its track, cut or reconnect cables, loosen bottom brackets, or adjust springs. The system can move unexpectedly, and loaded components require appropriate tools and training.
Why a door can come off track
Impact damage, worn rollers, track damage, loose hardware, a cable problem, or a counterbalance failure can affect the way a door travels. Sometimes several issues are connected. Putting a roller back without addressing the cause may only make the door appear fixed temporarily.
What we inspect
- The position and condition of the door sections.
- Tracks, rollers, hinges, brackets, and their attachment points.
- Cables, drums, springs, and the counterbalance system.
- The opener connection and whether any force was applied after the fault.
The repair plan depends on what is damaged and whether the existing components can operate safely after repair. We explain the findings, required parts, and pricing before you approve the work. A badly damaged section or track may need replacement rather than adjustment.
What to tell us when you call
Is the door open, closed, partly open, or tilted? Was a vehicle or object involved? Did you hear a bang? Can you see a loose cable or displaced roller from a safe distance? Share these details without touching the hardware. If the opening cannot be secured safely, tell us so we can discuss scheduling and access.
After the repair
The door should be checked for balanced movement, smooth travel, and appropriate opener operation. Ask what caused the problem and whether there are remaining worn components to monitor. Keep the written scope and warranty so you know what was repaired.
For related symptoms, see our spring guide, opener guide, and garage door FAQs. Phones are answered daily from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.; service appointments are Monday through Friday.
An inspection before a recommendation.
