Start with the door, not just the motor
An opener that strains, stops, or reverses does not always need replacement. A broken spring, binding track, damaged roller, or unbalanced door can overload an otherwise working opener. We inspect the door and opener together so the recommendation addresses the cause.
Common symptoms and what to report
- The remote does nothing: tell us whether the wall control still works and whether the opener has power.
- The door starts down, then reverses: note whether anything blocks the opening or the safety sensors appear disturbed.
- The motor runs but the door does not move: report any unusual sound, disconnected arm, or visible damage without reaching into moving parts.
- The door is unusually loud: describe whether the noise comes from the motor, rails, hinges, or door travel.
Keep the doorway clear. Do not bypass photo eyes, increase force settings to overcome binding, or keep operating a door that looks crooked or damaged.
When repair may make sense
A serviceable opener with an isolated accessory, sensor, control, or drive-component issue may be repairable. The decision depends on the model, parts availability, condition of the door, and the repair cost. An inspection gives us the information needed to compare an appropriate repair against replacement.
When to consider a replacement
Age, repeated failures, unavailable parts, obsolete safety features, and the overall condition of the system can change the decision. A replacement should be selected for the door and installation conditions. More motor power is not a substitute for repairing an unbalanced door.
Ask about drive type, operating noise, available headroom, wall-mount compatibility, battery backup, accessories, and any app or subscription requirements. We can explain LiftMaster options and identify which features fit the way you use your garage.
What happens after installation?
The work should include appropriate setup and checks of door travel and safety operation, along with an explanation of controls and maintenance. Keep the model information and written warranty. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for routine checks, and arrange service if safety reversal or sensing does not work properly.

An inspection before a recommendation.
Tell us what your garage door is doing. We inspect the system, explain your choices, and confirm pricing before you approve work.
